If you have internal shutters in your home, you absolutely need to remember that they need cleaning just as much as anything else in the home.
When they are up and attached by the windows, it can be easy to forget about them over time, but here at IQ Shutters, it is our business to make sure that people don’t forget that they need to take care of them in order to keep them in fine working condition!
Our Top Tips
It might not be on the top of your priorities list, but it’s definitely something that needs to be done! Here are some top tips for how to clean your internal shutters.
- It might seem obvious, but the place to start is to dust each slat individually, ideally with one of those specially designed flat duster ‘sticks’ that can fit easily between each slat. If you can find one that is microfibre, then even better, as the dust and debris will actively attach to the duster and make your job much easier.
- Make sure to move your shutters up and down on a regular daily basis, even if they are in a room that you haven’t spent any time in that day. The regular use will prevent dust and debris from settling, which will again make your job much easier when it comes to actually cleaning them.
- If you prefer to use a vacuum for your cleaning, then you can actually use one of the many attachments to hoover up most of the dust and debris between your shutter slats. Even better to use is one of those nozzles that has a set of brush bristles attached to it.
- When it comes to any heavier and more prominent staining on the slats, you will need to take a damp cloth to the area and rub until spotless. Depending on the type of material that your slats are made from, you need to be careful about using any particularly corrosive cleaning products.
